Born on May 8, 1926, in Isleworth, London, England, he was the second of three sons in the Attenborough family.

During World War II, Sir David Attenborough served in the Royal Navy and was initially interested in becoming a pilot.

Despite the disappointment of not becoming a pilot, the experience allowed him to travel and broaden his horizons.
