Known for its massive architectural feats, Saudi Arabia is set to build one of the biggest artificial projects in history.

Designed from hundreds of drones that will constantly move to mimic the movement of the earths real moon.

These drones would be equipped with powerful lights that would illuminate the megacity at night and provide a relaxing sight for residents to look at.

The drones would re-charge during the day, using the city’s 100% renewable energy sources.

Its not the first time an artificial moon has been created, albeit slightly differently, with scientists in China creating one to test a gravity experiment using magnets and a vacuum chamber.

Dubai has also created their own 753 foot man-made moon that has become a resort and cost around $5 billion to create.

9 – Artificial Intelligence

CEO of NEOM, Engineer Nazmi al-Nasr said artificial intelligence will lead the future in modern designs and technologies at the $500 billion mega-city.

Thought to use predictive and data modeling to find ways to improve daily life for its citizens, The Line will also pay them to upload data to its integrated autonomous network.

Early detection programs for breast cancer using artificial intelligence algorithms are thought to be a key component that is being developed for The Line with water and agriculture algorithms also planned.

Continuously learning and predicting ways to make life easier, this will be achieved using 5G, fibre, satellite and wireless solutions all feeding into a main control center within the city.

The artificial intelligence will be linked to everything from food production to police stations and even the education system.

8 – Microclimatic Spaces

Set to feature its own atmospheric conditions that differ from those in the surrounding areas, The Line will feature its very own microclimatic spaces.

Microclimates within The Line are thought to be different in different parts of the city, for example, large city areas may be temperate while ocean areas could be warm or tropical.

Plant Microclimate will also feature and will include both areas of vegetation such as forests and meadows.

Natural ventilation is also set to be incorporated into The Line with year round thermal comfort for indoor and public spaces.

The city will feature four distinctive ecologies including the upper valley, mountains, costal Desert and main costal regions.

7 – Railway Line

Thought to be featured beneath ground, the Line will have its own metro railway system that will run the length of the city from end to end.

Nicknamed “The Spine”, this rail link will improve connectivity across the megacity and reduce travel time from section to section.

The rail link will also give people in The Line access to the airport in the region and will feature the ability to travel from one end to the other in as little as 20 minutes.

The railway will also link the mega city to other cities in the region including the Sindalah Island Project in the Red Sea and the Oxagon business city.

6 – Hotels

Many people had been wondering whether The Line would feature hospitality and allow tourists to visit and stay in the city of the future.

Ennismore, the regions hotel partner is thought to be on the top list for the first hotel announcement in the Mega City.

Other hotels owned by the company, currently the worlds fastest growing hospitality company, are already in production at Trojena, the Kingdoms new Ski Resort.

Hotels within The Line would have to be vast and could take up one or several sections of the project and feature a number of facilities including cinemas and their own shopping districts.

Another 15 hotels are expected to be opened in the region between 2023 and 2025, with many of these expected to be situated along The Line.

Over 5 million tourists are expected to visit the line by 2030.

5 – Green Energy

Using energy sources such as wind, solar and green hydrogen, The Line will become a hub of renewable energy

While a project of this size will require considerable energy production, The Saudi Government plans to install one of the largest green power generation projects in its history to meet the needs.

Officially running on 100% renewable energy, The Line will have no carbon emissions and will preserve over 95% of the land it is built upon.

The projects walls are covered in mirrored glass that has been designed to make the most of the suns high arc in the summer and low arc in the winter.

Using energy sources such as wind, solar and green hydrogen, The Line will become a hub of renewable energy generation and will feature one of the largest solar farms on earth.

The region also plans to construct the worlds largest green hydrogen plant through a venture thought to cost around $5 billion dollars and produce 650 tonnes of fuel per day.

Later, some of this energy will be exported to other countries to finance further mega projects in the region.

4 – Nine Million Residents

Expected to be ready for its first residents as early as 2024, The Line will eventually have space to house around nine million people by its estimated completion in 2030.

The futuristic city will feature pre-engineered modular accommodation that will be stacked on-top of school’s, offices and parks with many calling it zero gravity urbanism.

Residents are set to reach all daily needs after just a five minute walk and residences will feature a one door-lock system.

Natural open spaces are planned to restore the residents humanity with nature with each community 100% self sufficient and featuring ever improving services.

3 – Port Hub

One of the reasons for connecting The Line to the red sea is for access to the worlds yachting and commercial shipping trades.

The Saudi government want to create the worlds most exclusive cruise ship destination with The Line and are building a massive cruise and yacht hub that will be connected to the west end of the project.

Around 40% of the worlds population will be able to reach The line within 4 hours either by boat or plane and 13% of the worlds trade already flows through the red sea.

Billionaires will be able to park their yachts in residence while smaller boat owners will be able to visit friends and family and enter through the megacity’s own immigration complex.

2 – Infrastructure Network

Featuring some of the most advanced technology in the world, The Lines infrastructure will mainly sit on one level below ground and out of sight.

The new water distribution network will be completely connected through advanced infrastructure and will feature a game-changing desalinisation technology facility.

Designing the project around people and not roads, there will literally be no roads within the city, instead relying on an army of autonomous drones and vehicles that will move people at a moments notice.

Its thought that shopping will be delivered by drones and the whole city’s communication and internet systems will be powered by The Saudi Telecom Company’s 5G network.

Walking cycling and personal electric mobility are also planned with access to a high speed public transit system connecting all neighbourhoods running on clean energy.

1 – International Airport

While The Line’s international airport will not be located directly inside the city, it will not be located far and will serve both The Line and the region for major tourist development.

Construction has already begun and the airport has been designed to reach a capacity of 1 million passengers by 2030.

Thought to include a ring-shaped hotel above the red-sea, the airport will feature dune-like departure lounge pods.

Each of these pods can be operated as a mini-terminal and will feature a number of shopping facilities, restaurants, spa’s and parks.

The airport will feature a main terminal building and runway, another seaplane runway will also operate and three helipads are also under construction.
